Festival needs your help

Organisers of the UK’s largest free environmental gathering is urging green minded North East businesses to back the festival as it returns to the region this summer.

Now in its 15th year, The Newcastle Community Green Festival will return to its natural home in Leazes Park for two days in June, and has challenged companies to sponsor the event.

Ruth Hayward, of the festival, said: “The festival is the North’s flagship get together for the UN World Environment Day and will showcase the very best in local talent across an array of renewably powered stages.

“We need North East companies to tune into this unique event and sponsor us. There’s a vast amount of potential for businesses to get involved and promote their services in front of a massive audience.”

Carrying strong environmental and social messages, the line-up this year is said to be stronger and bolder than ever before.

Ruth Hayward, of the festival, explained: “We want to stir people’s imaginations and get them thinking about the environment. We look to find positive outcomes to the world’s issues through the arts and environmental projects.”

This event is not just about handing out leaflets, it’s about educating, bringing the city together and having a lot of fun. The climate is changing at an alarming rate and events like this go a long way to changing people’s behaviour.“

From circus schools to fashion shows, break dancing workshops and solar powered cinemas, this year’s showdown has pulled out all the stops, and is set to appease the region’s musos and families.

Ruth Hayward said: “The festival prides itself on bringing people together from a variety of communities and having a good day. We have activities for children and the big people.

“There’s a huge range of great workshops, local artists, crafts, poets and performers who make the event quite special. People can learn about their world and be inspired.”

The Newcastle Community Green Festival is scheduled for Saturday 5th June and Sunday 6th June 2010 from 12pm-6pm both days.`
