Act fast or miss out, warns NAS
The National Apprenticeship Service has urged the region’s businesses and young talent to get behind a new scheme before it’s too late.
With nearly 170 Apprenticeship vacancies up for grabs until the end of the month, North East youngsters are being given the chance to land their dream job, but have been warned they must move quickly.
Launched by the National Apprenticeship Service last January, the programme has been developed to help businesses hire a young person who may have been facing difficulties holding down a job.
The government’s Apprenticeship Grant for Employers (AGE) offers companies a £2,500 bonus for each 16 or 17 year old they take on as an apprentice.
John Wayman, regional director, of the NAS, said: “There has never been a better time for firms to consider Apprenticeships as part of their recruitment strategy.
“Skills will be crucial to the recovery of the region’s economy and apprentices can be vital to businesses looking to innovate and grow.”
Mr. Wayman went on to say there has been an excellent take up of the Apprenticeship Grant in the North East, which has resulted in more than 450 openings across sectors including engineering, business and administration and ICT.
AGE hopes to see an additional 5,000 16 and 17 year olds in an Apprenticeship by the end of this month.
