The Chartered Institute of Marketing honours local entrepreneur
A Tyneside based senior marketer, Chris Mayes, has received The Chartered Institute of Marketing’s highest accolade for his professional achievements: being made a fellow. As Marketing Director of Tyco Thermal Controls, a global multinational, Chris manages a global remit. Before joining Tyco Thermal Controls in 2001, Chris worked in the electronics industry for eight years and the aluminium industry for 14 with a range of roles covering sales, customer services and business development. Chris said: “I was delighted to be elected a fellow. I’ve been working for some years to develop my skills with the chartered CPD scheme; this is the icing on the cake, a professional recognition of skills hard won. The extra skills I have from the CPD make me a strong senior industrial marketer.? His advice to other marketers aspiring to fellowship status is to continue learning and developing their knowledge. He said: “Become chartered, don’t do it as a tick box thing; really mean it. Join in the activities and volunteer some time to the local marketing community and search out opportunities to develop your own skills.? Regional Director Diane Earles praised Chris’s achievement, adding; “Fellowship is the ultimate recognition of commitment and hard work. It is great to see marketers achieving this status and furthering the level of professionalism in the marketing industry.? Fellow status is bestowed by The Chartered Institute of Marketing for members who have demonstrated an outstanding commitment, with a strong marketing background, usually a minimum of 15 years. They may have held a role such as Chief Executive, Executive Director, Senior Marketing Executive, Professor of Marketing, Senior Academic or Senior Marketing Consultant for a minimum period of five years.
