New jobs at green firm
A pioneering recycling company is expanding its Tees Valley operation and creating 15 jobs on the back of new funding.
Wilton-based Greenstar WES Plastics Recycling is a world leader in commercial production of food-grade recycled plastic and is about to embark on a project to upgrade facilities and support mixed use plastic recycling.
This mixed plastic stream (consisting of meat and ready meal trays, butter dishes, polypropylene bottles and similar) is currently not recovered and is generally landfilled or exported for low grade uses.
The company has been awarded a WRAP (Waste and Resources Action Programme) grant of 30% of the £4m investment to add new sorting, separation and cleaning equipment at its site. However in order for Greenstar WES to expand, the company’s power supply requires an upgrade.
One North East has offered the company a grant of £50,000 from the Tees Valley Industrial Programme (TVIP) to enable the upgrade to proceed, the total cost of which is estimated at £187,000.
One North East Head of Business Investment, Dr Simon Goon, said: “I am delighted that we have been able to support this important project, which is vital due to the existing electrical sub-station not having the capacity to support the increase in energy requirements at Greenstar WES.
“The upgrade to the sub-station was identified as a priority project in the Tees Valley Investment Programme, which has enabled One North East to accelerate these important projects will not only create a large number of employment opportunities, but also help the Wilton site maintain its reputation as a location for pioneering businesses operating at the forefront of UK industry.”
