Sherpa aims to lead the way in the recovery
For cash-hungry start-ups, the race to land venture capital can often be a blinkered affair with little time to consider what happens after the battle is won or indeed when they are going for it.
A new North East business aims to redress this by helping SMEs and entrepreneurs make the most of investor backing once they’ve won it.
Newcastle-based Sherpa Business Conusultancy, which has been spun out of consultancy firm People Boutique, is aiming to help businesses set out a plan of action to make sure their new investment delivers maximum impact.
The company hopes to place itself of the frontline of the economic recovery as the investment climate picks up.
“Creative and technical people may not have the appropriate commercial skills to get things to market. We aim to help them build a business,” says company founder Peter Watson.
“They will often come up with a concept but may not know how to drive it commercially, so we can give them a plan and interim management support in early sales,” he adds.
The company, which is headquartered in the i6 Business Centre in Newcastle’s Charlotte Square, is also targeting national firms which need to improve their online performance as well as acting as investment connectors.
There are currently four people involved in the business – although this is expected to grow considerably as the firm takes off – and plans are already underway to expand its reach across to the North West, alongside the North East.
Mr Watson says: “We are experiencing significant growth with technology entreprenuers in green technology, digital and business cost reduction innovation.
“Our growth has quickly moved us into London and the North West, as we look for talent that needs management team support getting it to market and creating scalable, sustainable returns.”
