Pensioners banned from owning plants
Pensioners have been banned from having ornaments or plants on their verandas due to health and safety rules.
Council leaders wrote to pensioners at a sheltered housing complex telling them to remove items such as carpets, chairs, plants and ornaments from the areas because they could be a fire hazard.
Some opponents of the rules have urged residents of Rookery Court in West Thurrock, Essex, to defy them.
