Construction work has begun on a £3.3m contract to refurbish three schools in the region.
The project will see St Oswald’s School in Alnwick, St Bede’s RC First School in Bedlington and St Charles’ RC Primary School in Gosforth refurbished.
The former St Oswald’s School in Springfield Park, Alnwick, is being completely refurbished and upgraded to accommodate the relocation of both Thomas Percy Middle School and St John’s First School.
St Bede’s is to construct three new classrooms alongside internal alterations to the administration area, as part of a £530,000 project.
Meanwhile St Charles’ is building a new multi-purpose space within an existing courtyard area and making internal alterations to the staff room and toilet.
North East-based construction consultant RNJ is among the firms involved on the projects.
Other parties involved include Darbyshire Architects on all three schemes, Stephen Eastern Building on St Oswalds, Dorin Construction on the St Bede’s project and ROK on St Charles’ Primary School**.**
John Gibson, partner at RNJ, said: “These three schemes further add to our already considerable portfolio of education work in the refurbishment sector and again highlight our diverse range of multi-disciplinary skills we can bring to the project, which we feel appeals to clients.”
