Finding the stars of tomorrow
A NEW campaign which aims to help thousands of school leavers find jobs with North East employers this summer has been launched.
The North East Chamber of Commerce’s (NECC) Stars of the Future campaign will provide apprenticeships to young people looking to start careers in areas such as accountancy, retail and warehousing, business administration customer service, dental nursing, engineering and IT.
The NECC has over 4,000 member businesses in the region and is asking its finest employers to make a pledge to provide apprenticeship employment opportunities to local young people and help develop the region’s skills base.
According to the NECC, it has developed a strong track record in helping talented youngsters gain a foothold in employment over the last 15 years.
In 2004 Adam Carter approached NECC about the group’s apprenticeship scheme. He took his Level 2 and Level 3 qualifications in Business Administration with Hargreaves Transport over the following two years, and has since been promoted to service co-ordinator.
He said: “What I really wanted was the opportunity to learn on the job – I wanted to be able to carry on earning while I learned.
“I thoroughly enjoyed my experience on the NECC apprenticeship programme, and I would recommend it to anyone looking at taking up an on-the-job training course.
“I came away from my time on the course with a lot of worthwhile knowledge, as well as a secure job.”
