Houghton to create 40 jobs
A NORTH EAST engineering company is on course for global expansion, having racked up orders worth £6.5m over the next four years.
Newcastle-based Houghton International is now poised to tap into the North American market and hopes to create 40 new jobs for the region.
The firm has also completed their move into a new 10k sq ft manufacturing and office space next door to their current Walker HQ, and is looking forward to showcasing its high voltage coils and manufacturing services at a high profile event in Orlando, Florida, this coming June.
Managing director, Michael Mitten said: “As one of the biggest events in our sector’s worldwide event calendar, the EASA Convention will enable us to promote our range of products to potential customers from all over the world, but especially the North American market.
“This investment follows on from recent success in the Canadian market and significant interest from South East Asia and the Middle East.”
After record growth during the past two years, Houghton International has further increased its market share in the UK’s rolling stock repair market, following a recent 4 year contract win to overhaul propulsion systems for a southern based rail franchise.
Michael Mitten, added: “We have agents on the ground now in Dubai, covering the entire Middle East region, and in Canada who have been extremely successful at opening new doors for us.
“Now the time is right to take on the USA.”
