North East journalists keep their eyes open
A team of entrepreneurial journalists hopes to change the face of arts and culture coverage in the region, after the launch of the North East’s first independent video led website.
Keep Your Eyes Open TV – a new interactive North East centric web publication – has warned the region is in danger of losing a free voice on local arts and public affairs, and has set about plugging this gap with their “new form of modern journalism.”
Taking advantage of the latest online technology, the site will feature audio and video interviews with local and touring artists, musicians and writers as well as regular broadcasts through an HD video channel.
Former Metro staff writer and KYEO executive editor, Andrew Fenwick, said: “We’ve set this up off our own back because we’re passionate about the region and its people.
“The North East is full of highly trained journalists, creatives, cultural commentators and casual arts fans, yet it is without a dedicated online media platform to share their passion for the region.
“There will always be a need for journalists and press coverage, it’s simply the format and way in which it’s delivered that has changed, and we believe this is the perfect time to launch a brand new form of regional journalism.”
Staffed by a team of journalists, KYEO has said it will look to employ more full time reporters throughout the region and will be meeting a number of potential investors to expand the company in the coming months.
