Rosewood aims to break the mould
The opening of a new environmentally-friendly residential care home in Gateshead has created 80 new jobs.
A new model of residential care has come to the North East, following the opening of Rosewood House in Bensham by the Mayor of Gateshead, Councillor John Eagl
As well as a cinema, sensory garden, aromatherapy, hairdressing salon and gym, the facility uses energy-saving technology - from solar power, super-insulation and rain harvesting equipment to recycling facilities.
The home has adopted the model of ‘relationship centred care’ which respects the individual’s circumstances, wishes and existing relationships.
All religious beliefs are accommodated within the home. Access is encouraged to local clergy of every faith and denomination and provision can be made within the kitchens so food can be prepared in keeping with all cultural / religious beliefs.
Opening the new facility, the Mayor of Gateshead, Councillor John Eagle, said: “Rosewood House has a very different and exciting, forward thinking approach. I am pleased that a facility of this standard has opened in Gateshead.
“With its modern facilities and highly trained team on site at all times, Rosewood’s residents are empowered to live lives which are as full, independent and fulfilling as possible with the appropriate support and stimulation – something we all aspire to as we get older.”
Afzal Ahmad, the proprietor of Rosewood House, added: “When the decision was taken to invest in Rosewood House, we knew we had to uphold all our ideals about what modern care should be and this home demonstrates that everyone and anyone can enjoy a positive, independent and active retirement, in an environment where safety is paramount, care is without compromise and family and friends are always welcome.”
