Music fan strikes a chord with online giant
A Sunderland Entrepreneur and music fan is ready to launch his social media site onto the global stage, having struck a chord with online music giant Spotify.
Sharemyplaylists.com (SMP), developed by businessman Kieron Donoghue, is set to be the largest playlist sharing music site on Earth, after receiving a six figure investment from Newcastle based internet investors.
Offering a social network so music fans can talk about their favourite artists and bands, as well as the opportunity to discover and rate other people’s music compilations, SMP was born as a product of Mr. Donoghue’s love for music.
He said: “I knew Spotify was a great way to listen to music but if you don’t know what is you want to hear it is difficult to get the best out of it.
“I wanted to make it easier for people to hear new artists and I realised there was an opportunity and a chance for people to share playlists and interact with each other at the same time.”
Having launched the site in March last year, Kieron Donoghue pitched the idea to the creators of www.buy.at, who quickly spotted the potential of the new platform.
Investor and ex CEO of buy.at, Steven Brown, said: The online music sector is high growth and Spotify is a fantastic application that offers legal streaming music, a service that will quite simply become the normal way to consume music in future.
“Sharemyplaylists.com is brilliant in its simplicity and it plugs a real gap that allows friends to connect through their common passion.”
Over 16,000 playlists are now currently listed on SMP - the largest number on any site of its kind – and Mr. Donoghue is looking to push his creation to all corners of the globe.
He added: “Spotify is set to launch in the USA this year and we’ve got plans to do that as well.
“We’re keen to expand in the European territories such as Spain and France and we’re now building an i-Phone and i-Pad application to compliment SMP.”
