Driving through tough conditions

MOTOR retailer RMB Automotive is gearing up for expansion and new acquisitions after accelerating into the black.

The Stockton-based company posted a pre-tax profit of £1.02m in the year ending December 2009, compared to a £332,137 loss the previous year.

The firm, which saw its annual turnover remain relatively flat at almost £38m during the period, also said the first two months of 2010 had been tough due to the harsh weather conditions and the fallout from the high profile problems experienced by Toyota.

It conceded that the year ahead looked set to be challenging with the Government scrappage scheme now over and given the ongoing political instability in the general election build up and aftermath.

A company statement said: “At the end of the first quarter RMB will be ahead of budget year to date and is on target to achieve its full year plan.

“Following a very successful year in 2009 and what is forecast to be a good year in 2010, RMB Automotive is looking at expansion, which may be on existing sites but may also involve acquisitions where the opportunity arises.”

RMB represents Toyota in branches in Stockton, Northallerton and Darlington and Lexus in a branch at Stockton. It also owns a body shop near Yarm which doubles up as a used car centre.
