NOF showcases nuclear opportunities

BUSINESS development organisation NOF Energy will give North East firms the chance to gain an insight into the future of the nuclear industry at a major event next week.

The trade body for the oil, gas, nuclear and offshore wind sectors will host a special event with Sellafield to help supply chain companies learn more about the nuclear sector and where it is heading.

Taking place at the Hallgarth Hotel in Darlington on May 18, the networking event will detail Sellafield Ltd’s relationship with the supply chain and what the company looks for in its suppliers.

Sellafield, which is owned by Nuclear Management Partners, is responsible for safely delivering decommissioning, reprocessing, nuclear waste management and fuel manufacturing activities on behalf of the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority.

The company has sites at Sellafield in Cumbria and Capenhurst in Cheshire as well as an extensive engineering design facility in Risley, Warrington.

Speaking at the event will be supply chain ombudsman, Zoe Whittle who will give an introduction to working with Sellafield Ltd and how the company contracts with suppliers.

Sellafield Ltd’s supply chain innovation manager, Stuart Wilson, will then explain its commitment to research and technology and the role external innovation plays in the company’s development.

Joanne Leng, NOF Energy director business development, said: “The nuclear sector provides a wealth of opportunities for supply chain companies and this event with Sellafield will provide important intelligence about what is happening and how companies can have a greater involvement in this growing industry.

“There are a considerable number of companies in the oil & gas sector in particular, which have transferable capabilities that can be applied in to the nuclear industry. NOF Energy is helping its members build a greater understanding of developments and opportunities in the nuclear sector.”
