Tech boost for manufacturers
A RAPIDLY growing software firm is hoping to galvanise the manufacturing sector in the region having struck a deal with global powerhouse GE Intelligent Platforms.
Sunderland-based 5G - which specialises in software solutions for manufacturing operations – has signed the new high profile agreement and will now act as the European representative for GE’s business maintenance product, Proficy Maintenance Gateway (PMG).
Jonathan Kent, commercial manager at 5G, said: “We are delighted to have secured this contract with GE Intelligent Platforms. This really is a very significant step forward for the business.
“The software application will improve plant reliability and help businesses avoid equipment failures as well as providing manufacturing intelligence.
“We are confident that manufacturing firms in the region, across the country and across Europe will embrace this new technology and derive the tremendous cost benefit it offers.”
5G will now manage sales, marketing and implementation support to GE and its customers across Europe after securing the contract on the back of launching its operations in the North East last autumn.
5G was supported by Sunderland Software City to set up its business in the region and is looking forward to continued growth on a global scale, having already secured offices in India and Canada.
Mr. Kent added: “The addition of a UK base has really helped to open doors for us, and we look forward to continuing our work and to build on the successful 6 months we’ve had since establishing our North East base.”
