Latin fever comes to the North East
SPANISH wrestling and music from the heart of the favelas of Rio will be among the highlights of a major event which will bring Latin fever to the region this summer.
The ‘iVAMOS!’ festival from 2 to 11 July will celebrate Latin and Lusophone (Portuguese-speaking) cultures through a series of music, film, sport and arts activities.
Among the attractions happening in Newcastle, Gateshead, Middlesbrough and North Tyneside are Live Lucha Libre Mexican Wrestling, a documentary about the music from the favelas of Rio de Janeiro, secret restaurants in Latin homes across the region and a performance from the Danza Contemporánea de Cuba.
The ten action packed days also include live contemporary and traditional Latin music, vibrant visual art exhibitions, authentic Latin cuisine and outdoor picnics, enlightening talks and thought provoking discussions.
Newcastle United players Argentina International Jonas Gutierrez and Spanish defender Jose Enrique are amongst those eagerly awaiting the return of ¡VAMOS! Festival 2010.
Argentina International Jonas Gutierrez said:“I am engrossed by Latin music and play it all the time at home, in my car and even at the Training Ground - the rest of the team love it! I am sure the Festival will be a great success and I wish the organisers and participants all the very best in what is sure to be a fantastic event.” Spanish defender Jose Enrique added: “Like Jonas I like my music and looking at the programme of events the Festival has got lined up, it’s terrific. There is such a wide range of entertainment to suit all tastes and it certainly promises to be lively to say the least.”
