Business school goes global

NEWCASTLE University Business School is on course to expand its global presence having enjoyed a dramatic rise in foreign student numbers.

Recent figures released by the school has shown the number of international students rise by 84% in just 5 years, recruiting undergraduates and postgraduates from 104 countries.

The university has also forged a string of international business links and taken on new staff in its bid to make the business school one of the most envied on earth.

Commenting on the progress NUBS is making, Professor Stephen Hughes, said: “The university is now a lot more engaged with the international business community. We’re beginning to wake up to the fact that education is an engine behind the global economy.

“Our students now come from China, Malaysia, South America and Europe. We have lots of exchange programmes here and the lifeblood of the university has a global focus and an international status. It’s great to be part of that development after joining the business school from the University of Auckland.”

Having forged strong ties with global organisations such as the Reserve Bank of India, the school is also celebrating after being awarded the highly regarded EQUIS accreditation - which places NUBS in a band of excellence along with some of the world’s top institutions for business.

Professor Stephen Hughes added: “We are now able to say we are an international leading business school. We’ve been benchmarked against the others and now we can prove what we have here.

“We’re now double accredited with EQUIS and our AMBA accreditation and we’d like to get the third. Only 1% of the world’s business schools have this. We have a role to play to ensure our students get the jobs in business they deserve.”
