FileBase fights back
AFTER surviving the collapse of its parent company last year, a now flourishing information management firm has set its sights on expansion in the region.
FileBase, located in Morpeth, had been successfully trading for 11 years before going into administration last year.
12 months later the firm is under new ownership and is looking to increase turnover by 50% and employ a further 12 staff inside three years.
Director Mark Sanderson explained: “In 2008 Filebase joined a broader group of companies, all of which were property related and when the market declined we all suffered.
“I had been working in advertising and my Father ran Filebase. Tragically, when the business went into administration, he suffered a terrible accident, so I had to come up from London to buy it back with my brother.
“We managed to pull Filebase out of administration and keep it trading under the same name, at the same location and with the same staff. We actually safeguarded 23 people’s jobs.”
The company – which specialises in document management and scanning for businesses – has now landed a series of lucrative contracts with the NHS and Durham Business School and is planning to expand with the creation of a new base.
Filebase has also appointed a string of new and experienced staff to help drive the business forward.
Mark Sanderson added: “Over the last 12 months we’ve expanded the offering. We do a lot more in the way of scanning, shredding and recycling and we’re embracing the digital aspects of the business.
“It was just a small family business for over a decade and things are now looking to pick up significantly. We’re looking to take on an additional new site in the North East to move our front office closer to our market.”
Next week the company will stage an event at the Baltic for clients and stakeholders to celebrate the progress the company has made since emerging from the brink of closure.
