Romag lands £10.2m solar deal
SPECIALISED glass maker Romag has fought of competition from 12 European rivals to land a £10.2m deal to supply solar panels and equipment to a fellow North East organisation.
The Consett-based company has won a contract to supply solar photovoltaic modules and roof mount kits to Community Energy Solutions (CES) – a non-profit regional body charged with boosting the uptake of micro-generation renewable technology in the North East.
Romag – which last week announced the unfortunate death of its CEO Lyn Miles following a long illness – will provide equipment to be used in approximately 2000 PV systems in homes and properties across the North East, Yorkshire and Humberside that will be installed within the next two years.
Finance director David Banks said: “We have been experiencing a higher level of enquiries for this kind of micro-generation system since the implementation of the UK Feed-in Tariff in April this year and it is extremely pleasing to see that interest materialise into a major agreement like this.”
Romag, which makes photovoltaic glass for the renewables sector and glass for the construction industry, made a trading profit of £0.3m in the six months to the end of March, compared to a £1.3m loss in the same period last year.
