Juke overtakes expectations
NEW figures suggest that Nissan’s Wearside plant could be set to go into overdrive once its latest model hits European roads.
The Japanese car giant has announced that orders for its new Juke model – which will begin rolling off the Washington production line in August – has had an overwhelming response in its homeland.
The compact sport utility vehicle, launched in Japan on 9 June, has exceeded its monthly sales target of 1,300 units by over 300% in the first week alone.
As of Tuesday, the automaker had received orders for 5,296 units of the vehicle which Nissan plans to roll out the car in Europe and the U.S. this autumn.
Meanwhile, reports in the Japanese press say that Nissan will look to raise output of its ever-popular Wearside-made Qashqai model by around 30% to nearly 24,000 units a month.
Last month the Sunderland plant introduced a third shift on the Qashqai line to extend production through the night.
