£1m Durham regeneration project kicks off
A Gateshead-based design and construction company is kicking off with two projects worth nearly £1million as it looks to redevelop two areas in County Durham.
Koru Property Services has teamed up with the Four Housing Group to renovate a building in Victoria Terrace in Durham and construct eight bungalows for the elderly in Thornley.
With an expected completion date next month, the renovation of the property in Victoria Terrace will convert a former women’s refuge containing eight bedsits to three self contained flats and one staff accommodation flat for the North East Autistic Society (NEAS).
David Brown, head of development and regeneration at Four Housing Group, said: “Due to the economic down turn many regeneration plans were put on hold.
“However, the council has decided to restart this particular scheme in order to re-house a number of elderly residents who were displaced by the demolition of properties in the area.”
Koru Property Services now expects substantial growth this financial year and will look to take advantage of emerging markets.
Tony Henderson, director, Koru Property Services, added: “We’ve been able to emerge out of the economic downturn substantially stronger than many of our competitors.
“Our competitive tenders and operational efficiency means that we are able to enjoy their continued loyalty as well as attracting new ones.”
