National outlook is the future for construction firm
A County Durham construction firm has said it’s in poll position to capitalise on the poor level of social housing in the UK, having announced a £339,000 profit in its latest results.
The Esh Group, which recently moved into an additional 600,000sq m facility in Cramlington, has said the construction of care homes south of the M2 will pump new life into the company, as it returns to the black after a painful £6.5m loss in 2008.
Chief executive Brian Manning, said: “We are working nationally now and we’re focusing on the construction of care homes. It’s a new venture for us and it will increase our turnover and help us recover from the cutbacks we’ve had to make in the North East.
“We have a lot of work on in the social housing market. That’s proving to be a very busy area for us.
We knew five years ago that social housing was an area that needed investing in. We’re short of good quality housing and we’re in a solid position to take advantage of this opportunity.“
The Esh Group now has an office in Leeds which has enjoyed a turnover of almost £15m and the firm now looking forward to further expansion throughout the UK.
The construction company were previously forced to slash their workforce from 1,300 to 1,000 in 2008 but have said their business plan will allow them to take on new recruits in the future.
Mr. Manning added: “The majority of our cutbacks have been made and inside 3 years we’re confident of getting our staff numbers back to how they used to be. We’re hoping to make a profit of £3m this year.”
