Support services group stands firm

AS SMALL business leaders witness swingeing cuts to the support services available to them, one organisation has vowed to continue helping start-ups in the region this year and beyond.

Although times remain uncertain for any organisations which rely on the public purse, enterprise agency Northumberland Business Service Limited (NBSL) has told bdaily it remains keen to welcome more entrepreneurs through its doors in the coming months.

The group, which has offices across Northumberland, offers funded management and leadership training and workshops ranging from web design, trading on ebay, marketing, rules and regulations and bookkeeping.

Despite the Government’s drive to cutback and reform services available to businesses, NBSL is expecting to add hundreds more to the estimated 5,000 people it has helped to date by March 2011 when its training contract is reviewed.

NBSL senior manager Joy Gair said: “Leadership and management are sitting very high on the agenda at the moment and our services will certainly run until March 2011.

“After that it looks as though there will be some continuation since it has been so well received because of its flexibility.

“In the past I think there’s been a reluctance for key people to develop leadership and management skills but, with the current economic uncertainty, it’s great for people who work with NBSL to see a quick impact on their business.”
