Houghton enjoys international success
ENGINEERING firm Houghton International has boosted its global presence by landing its first contract in Singapore and generating US$500,000 in sales enquiries at a trade show in Florida.
The company, based in Walker, Newcastle, successfully exhibited its high voltage coil products in the US at a trade show in June, after new business wins in Canada, Kuwait and Ireland in the last year.
A surge in sales enquiries followed, as did a new deal in Singapore which, according to general manager, Craig Hutton, came as a welcome surprise.
He said: “Singapore is not a market we have strategically targeted as our focus in the past 12 months has been on developing the Middle East and Canada, where we have agents on the ground, and the USA, the biggest market in the world for our high voltage products.
“So when this enquiry came in on the back of a referral from a supplier, we were over the moon.”
Last November the firm expanded into a new 10,000sqft manufacturing facility and in the first half of 2010 has seen its sales increase 20% on the same period last year.
Houghton’s rail services business has taken new contracts from across the UK and expects its offering which can extend the life of rolling stock, will help them accelerate growth over the next 5 years.
