Support group maintains impressive record
A NORTHUMBERLAND support office has managed to set up two new businesses a week since operations began three years ago, it said yesterday.
Go Wansbeck a government backed venture designed to create business growthand attract new investment to the area - has now provided £2m to 288 new businesses through its flexible funding programme.
This year alone, Go Wansbeck created 70 new businesses and last month acarpet fitter from Ashington became the latest member of a new generation of Wansbeck businessmen and women.
Cllr Jeff Reid, the leader of Northumberland County Council, said: “GoWansbeck¹s impact cannot be over estimated. It has helped many peoplerealise their dreams of starting their own business.
“In many cases they have gone on to employ other local people and work withother local enterprises. The whole area’s economy has benefited.
“The 10 year programme has received £11.8m in its first three years and by 2017 the initiative hopes to increase Wansbeck¹s self employment rate by 25%.”
