Music business event returns
A PROGRAMME which aims to boost the region’s music industry is to return to the North East next month, it has been announced.
Music Business 2 Music Business (MB2MB) a ten-week programme of seminars for new music businesses is set to run in Sunderland from September 9.
Delivered by music development agency Generator in partnership with Sunderland’s Bunker, the seminars have previously run in Newcastle and Middlesbrough and offer a full overview of the music industry from how record companies are structured to constructing digital marketing strategies.
Guest speakers from leading organisations and major record labels will pass on their knowledge and experience as part of a free programme at Sunderland’s Argent Centre.
Paul Thompson, manager of unsigned Newcastle three-piece Polarsets, took part in an earlier MB2MB course in Newcastle. Since completing MB2MB Paul has joined Amazing Radio as Marketing Manager.
Gateshead-based Amazing Radio is a national DAB station which exclusively plays unsigned music and is the only national radio broadcaster based outside London.
Mr Thompson said: “Generator’s MB2MB course provided me with a comprehensive overview on getting started in the music business. Everything from product development, marketing strategies and finding funding to get your business off the ground. The broad range of topics covered left me with an up to date knowledge of where my activities sat in the grand scheme of the industry.”
MB2MB is part of Generator’s ’Building the Business of Music’ programme, a £1.64m business support initiative for the music industry which will help 240 small and medium sized enterprises and create up to 100 new jobs in the region.
Seminars will run on Thursday’s for ten weeks until November 11 and places are limited.
