Ethical jewellery shop supports Alzheimers

A NORTH East business woman is using her interactive website to inspire others to help the growing number of elderly people in the region suffering from dementia.

Aimee Caitlin Davison, 27, has been inspired by her grandfather John Davison, a former finance director and talented artist from South Shields who is now suffering from Alzheimer’s at the age of 79.

Aimee is using the website developed by Pearsons Digital to market her bespoke jewellery and fashion accessories whilst also promoting fund-raising events in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society.

A former fashion marketing student at Northumbria University, Aimee travels the world to source jewellery and fashion items, which are then marketed through her website at www.caitlinstarr.com.

She designs many of the items herself, which are manufactured in the UK and Far East, using only materials and companies that match her high ethical standards.

Aimee said: “Caitlin Starr is an exciting new company based in the North East and we have chosen to support Alzheimer’s Society with a donation from the proceeds of each sale of our jewellery, gift and fashion accessory ranges.

“Each sale will generate a donation to the charity. Alzheimer’s Society supporters can hold a party evening and retain one third of the value of each sale to pass on to Alzheimer’s Society either direct or via Caitlin Starr.

“As a child, my grandfather taught me how to paint and draw and he lit a spark, which led me to university and my career in fashion design. Since being diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, we have seen his own ability to paint some wonderful pictures completely destroyed. I hear of the same terrible stories from other families too often’’ said Aimee.

Her website is unusual in being both a platform for her products and also as a means of promoting events and fund-raising activities.

“The website has been created by Pearsons and it is fantastic what they have managed to achieve with it,’’ she says.
