Wearside engineering firm expands production
AN ENGINEERING ORGANISATION has safeguarded the jobs of 72 employees and laid down plans for a new factory as part of a £1.6m project.
Penn Elcom is creating 15 new jobs and safeguarding a further 52 in a project that will see the company move to a new factory on the Parsons Industrial Estate, Washington.
Richard Hodgson, Penn Elcom group financial controller, said: “Having come through the recession Penn Elcom is now gearing up to take advantage of the opportunities presenting themselves in the economic upturn.
“Ensuring that all elements of our business are together under one roof with additional space has allowed us to expand production and warehouse facility.
Penn Elcom is a manufacturer of light engineering products such as flight cases, racking, connectors and speaker cabinet solutions.
The business was created in 1974 as Penn Fabrication Ltd, manufacturing flight case hardware in High Wycombe.
The company opened a manufacturing site inn Bexhill on Sea in 1987 and in 1991 a further site was opened in Tyne and Wear. The Group currently employs 560 worldwide.
One North East has offered the company a Grant for Business Investment of £220,000 to help fund the move and purchase additional equipment at the new plant.
