Young Enterprise wins business contract

A GATESHEAD-based education provider has won a region-wide contract to be the official partner for the first ever Government-backed Education and Employers taskforce campaign.

Young Enterprise North East (YENE) has fended off stiff competition from other education and business partnership organisations (EBPOs) to be the partner that will match businesses with schools across Northumberland, Newcastle, Gateshead, Sunderland and South Tyneside.

This is a chance for bosses from private and public sector organisations to hear first-hand from head teachers and young people aged 5 – 19 about how they can actively help shape their motivation, skills, achievement and employability.

YENE chief executive Catherine Marchant said: “This positions us nicely as a lead broker between education and business.

“Businesses and schools will be encouraged to register for the chance to have a two hour session so they can collaborate on how they can get the best from each other, offering more than just work experience.

“We will then pair businesses and schools up, co-ordinate the meetings, attend some, as well as giving feedback and showcasing good examples.

Taking part in Visit our Schools week is free to everyone and only requires a maximum of two hours of time in the week of 18-22 October to visit a school/college in the North East.

Leaders from the worlds of education and business have united behind the campaign, including all the main teaching unions, school and college leadership bodies and employer representative bodies such as the British Chambers of Commerce, Confederation of British Industry, FSB, Institute of Directors and Trades Union Congress.

North East Chamber of Commerce chief executive James Ramsbotham added: “It’s great that Young Enterprise North East has won this contract to be the main partner for the Visit our Schools campaign.

“There is so much that schools and business leaders can learn from each other. Young Enterprise North East is the region’s longest standing enterprise education provider, having worked with thousands of schools and businesses, and it really is best placed to make the best of this partnership.”
