Job losses at frozen food firm
ANOTHER 250 jobs have gone in the north-east of England with the collapse of a frozen food firm.
Northumberland Foods has ceased trading after falling into administration for the second time in just over a year.
It made frozen potatoes — including ones plugged by Tesco on TV in the run-up to last Christmas.
Administrators Begbies Traynor said a rescue takeover of the business — based in Amble near Morpeth — had broken down.
Begbies said: “Given the lack of interested parties and the company’s substantial funding requirement, we have been left with no alternative but for the company to cease trading immediately.”
The blow comes after a wave of redundancies in the north-east during the recession. It could mean a £250,000 loss for the local authority.
Northumberland County Council pumped in the cash last year to help keep the business afloat.
