New shower design a hit with leisure firm

A NEW shower cubicle designed for holiday homes has helped a County Durham firm secure a £300,000 deal to expand its services.

Subcontract manufacturer Lamplas, based in Consett, has won orders to supply Victory Leisure Homes in Hull with the shower after receiving funding.

The deal will see the supply of shower units with lighting and shelving replace current plastic models in its higher end range.

Lamplas has been manufacturing fittings and parts for caravan and holiday home manufacturers for 40 years and saw the opportunity to create their own products using sturdy Glass Reinforced Plastics (GRP) technology.

Lamplas business development manager, Michael Gallagher said: “When I saw the prototype scale model designed and produced by Bigto, I knew the shower unit would be a success, but am delighted that it has already been taken on board by one of the UK’s leading holiday home companies.

“The shower unit brings a new level of home comfort and quality of finish to the mobile home market.

“Bigto bought into this vision and have helped us take our manufacturing skills in GRP composite technology to the next level by delivering a high quality and great looking product.

“This project is helping us invest in the future of the business by creating new revenue streams through innovation.”

John Hetherington of Design Network North project managed the design of the new shower unit on behalf of Lamplas.

He added: “The new shower pod is a great example of how good design can bring high value rewards to the region’s design and manufacturing community.

“It’s obvious innovation in the North East is alive and well.”

Funded by One North East and the European Regional Development Fund, the network is part of Solutions for Business, the government’s package of publicly funded business support designed to help companies start and grow.

Based at RTC North in Sunderland, until the construction of the Northern Design Centre at the heart of Gateshead’s Baltic Business Quarter, the network will benefit from £857,396 of European Union investment from the ERDF Competitiveness Programme 2007-13, managed by regional development agency One North East.
