Support in place for disappointed A-Level students
STUDENTS left disappointed after missing out on university places following last week’s A-Level results are being offered guidance and support to gain high level qualifications and start careers.
Four projects supported by One North East FE Progression Challenge Fund are in place offering enhanced careers guidance, opportunities to learn new skills and support to gain additional credits.
The fund was launched last year, but take-up is expected to be considerably higher this year with record number of applicants already accepting offers from their chosen institutions.
Lesley Calder, One North East head of European and skills strategy, said: “Many students will be feeling extremely disappointed and concerned about not securing the places at universities that they were expecting. However, this project aims to inform them that there are many other avenues open to them.
“My advice to anyone concerned about not receiving a place at their chosen university is to not panic – there are many other options open to you and these projects can help you make the right choice for you.”
Ashleigh McGinty-Carr, careers advisor at Gateshead College, added: “The enhanced information, advice and guidance supports individuals in a variety of different ways depending on personal career aspirations.
“As a result of the sessions, some people can prepare themselves to improve a future UCAS application by registering for Open University courses which can boost UCAS points.”
