Ethical superstore reveals record sales
A TYNESIDE-BASED ethical retailer has revealed a 48% increase in turnover to £4.3m for the year ending July 2010.
EthicalSuperstore.com has seen a surge in the number of eco savvy consumers purchasing from the company’s range of organic and eco-friendly products available through the online retailer.
The organisation now has over 9000 products to choose from, including 4000 new lines which have recently been added as part of the company’s new marketplace initiative, where it is hoping to position itself as an ‘ethical Amazon’.
EthicalSuperstore.com has also reported a record-breaking year in Fairtrade product sales, and is now one of the leading independent retailers of Cafédirect, Divine Chocolate and Traidcraft products, including products not available in supermarkets.
Co-founder Vic Morgan commented: “We are now at a milestone point for EthicalSuperstore.com and are once again delighted with our results. The main focus for us over the year ahead will be to expand our marketplace and to open up the platform to as many suppliers as possible, which will not only benefit our customers but also producers across the globe.
“We hope that by introducing even more ranges from a wide variety of suppliers that we will open up our offering to an even wider customer base. Our results already prove that consumers are already taking the eco message seriously and through ethical purchasing they can make a positive difference in the world, without compromising on quality.”
EthicalSuperstore’s strong growth has been elevated due to its merger with Natural Collection in 2009, bringing together two of the biggest brands in the ethical and Fairtrade sector.
The firm has said it will continue to expand the Natural Collection mail order catalogue side of the business, with the launch of its Autumn / Winter issue full of eco homewares and ethical fashion currently proving a hit with its customers, as well as expanding its own marketplace in the year ahead.
