Business brains share their secrets

BUSINESSES are being offered a unique perspective to help them flourish in the new economic and political world.

Three of the region’s most successful business brains will form an expert panel, hosted by the Entrepreneurs’ Forum, offering insight into the challenges and opportunities ahead.

Chief executive of The Sage Group Paul Walker will be joined by Leighton Group founder and chairman of One NorthEast Paul Callaghan, and founder of Admiral PR Georgie Cameron at the event, at Wynyard, tomorrow.

The session, introduced by Entrepreneurs’ Forum founder member Simon Heptinstall, will consider how ordinary people can do extraordinary things drawing on the experience of three entrepreneurs who are based locally but share a global perspective.

Entrepreneurs’ Forum chief executive Carole Beverley said: “Changes in the political and economic landscape undoubtedly are bringing challenges to our region but they are also presenting huge opportunities.

“This panel event offers the chance to tap into the minds and experience of three entrepreneurs whose vision reaches far beyond our region.”

Paul Walker is a former Entrepreneurs’ Forum chairman and probably best known in the region for his high-profile role as Global Chief Executive of The Sage Group plc.

Less well known are the numerous roles he has had over the past 30 years including four years as a non-exec at MyTravel Group plc and a non-exec role at The Gadget Shop.

He is currently non-executive director at the £9.1bn turnover Diageo plc, owner of many of the world’s most recognised beverage alcohol brands, including Guinness, Johnnie Walker, Smirnoff, Gordon’s, Pimm’s, Baileys and Blossom Hill.

Paul Callaghan is a founding board member of The Entrepreneurs’ Forum and founder and chairman of Leighton, the worldwide technology and communications group.

Georgie Cameron’s career in communications began with McCann-Erickson in the Middle East, where she worked on many global brand accounts including KLM, BMW and Coca-Cola.

She relocated back to the UK and managed the public relations for Sage in the UK before branching out on her own.

She founded strategic communications consultancy Admiral in Newcastle in 2004 and also has offices in Manchester and London.

The panel event will be held at the Wynyard Rooms, Wynyard, from 6.30pm to 9.30pm. To register visit info@entrepreneursforum.net or call 0870 8502233.
