Making the playground a safer place

A DURHAM entrepreneur is launching a system that allows schools to pro-actively monitor suspected cases of bullying and abuse.

James Inman has developed CPOMS (Child Protection Online Monitoring System), an online system that manages the records of children deemed “at risk”.

CPOMS can link with a school’s current management system and provides teaching staff with in-depth information relating to students and their welfare.

This includes a breakdown of referrals and communications with external support services, management of any day-to-day concerns that have been reported about a child and the ability to generate comprehensive reports about their students.

Mr Inman is the managing director of Montrose River, a software firm that specialises in the development of innovative systems for the education sector.

The entrepreneur, who suffers from Dyspraxia, established the company after discovering a gap in the market for innovative and secure systems that monitor the personal and social wellbeing of students, as well as supporting those with special educational needs (SEN) issues.

He said: “After experiencing the support provided by educational institutions first-hand I became aware that many of the issues they faced, such as managing students’ records and providing support, could be vastly improved with the implementation of appropriate technology.

“This seemed largely down to a shortage of resources and difficulties with monitoring, as well as limited flexibility with their current systems. I decided to launch Montrose River to provide solutions to these problems.”
