Region’s biggest design festival is back
THE region’s biggest annual design festival is back for the sixth year running to provide a welcome boost to the region’s tourism trade.
DESIGN Event North East will see a total of 26 different exhibitions, talks, and events over an 11 day period across the North East next month.
Celebrating design in all its forms including graphics, fashion, and architecture, the festival will showcase the cream of the region’s design talent and bring a host of international design names to the North East.
This year’s Design Event Festival will kick off with a citywide outdoor exhibition in Newcastle called ‘The Modern Art of Conversation’ inspired by the 1936 document ‘The Art of Conversation’ by Milton Wright.
Design Event North East director Karen Stone said: “This year we aim to provoke conversation with this exhibition by encouraging people to question the quality of conversation today. Has something been lost from our conversations in modern society due to recent technologies such as texting and email?
“With a new theme every year, Design Event North East is always thought-provoking and continues to push design boundaries.”
The pinnacle of the Design Event North East festival is the Design Event MART, a selling exhibition and awards ceremony held on 22-24 October at the BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art.
