Top chef launches new business

A CHEF to the stars who has cooked for the likes of Mick Jagger and Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber officially opens his new restaurant venture in the region today.

Graeme Cuthell, formerly head chef at Newcastle’s Hotel Du Vin, will tonight officially launch his new business, Irvins Brasserie, in North Shields.

The 44-year-old will host an official opening party for special guests from across the region, although the restaurant has already enjoyed bumper trading since its doors opened in the August bank holiday.

Mr Cuthell, who was previously a chef to Andrew Lloyd Webber and has cooked for a host of other celebrities, is hoping to create a new dining experience on the North Shields Fish Quay.

He said: “Irvins will focus on simple yet stylish lines, with a modern relaxed twist. I want to encapsulate my passion for food and excellent service in a relaxed dining experience.”

The restaurant is based in the Irvin Building, a Grade II listed structure dating from 1913 when Irvin and Sons opened the doors on their fishing business.

It was designed for them as a place to produce nets, sails, ropes and other equipment whilst also running their own trawling fleet.

Although still thriving, Irvin and Sons relocated to Glasgow in 1997 leaving the building to be redeveloped.
