Driving skills forward with near £100,000 boost
As chief executive of the North East Automotive Alliance, I have had the privilege of seeing first-hand the strength, resilience and innovation that defines our region’s automotive sector.
Each year, our awards ceremony is a powerful reminder of the incredible talent and dedication that exists across the North East.
However, it is not just about celebrating success in the industry; it is about investing in the future of our communities through STEM education.
Since the NEAA Awards began in 2018, we have donated an incredible £94,000 to support STEM initiatives in the region.
This year alone, our awards evening at Ramside Hall Hotel raised nearly £18,000.
These funds are making a real difference.
They are helping to inspire the next generation of engineers, technicians and innovators by supporting schools such as Wardley Primary School, Coatham Primary School, Epinay School, Our Lady Queen of Peace, Washington Academy, Albany Village Primary School and Portobello Primary School to invest in robotics programmes, specialist equipment and STEM club initiatives.
They are also enabling projects like Primary Engineer to continue important work in engaging young people in science, technology, engineering and maths.
It's no secret the future of our industry depends on a skilled and passionate workforce.
That journey begins in the classroom.
By supporting STEM education, we are not only giving young people new opportunities but helping secure the long-term success of the automotive sector in the North East.
This year’s ceremony also marked the launch of our Women Who Inspire in Automotive Award.
I was delighted to see Antonia-Lee Walker, of ElringKlinger GB, recognised for her leadership and commitment to gender equality.
Her achievements serve as an inspiration to many and reflect the diversity and forward-thinking approach we value in our industry.
I am incredibly proud of what we have achieved through the NEAA Awards.
The impact of this fundraising is already being felt in schools and communities across the region.
As we edge closer to the £100,000 milestone, our commitment to supporting STEM education and empowering young people remains as strong as ever.
