Une bonne idée from enterprising mum
A COUNTY Durham mum has set up her own business teaching babies and young children how to speak French.
Angela Sterling, a mum-of-one from Stanley, has created Lingotot to introduce babies and toddlers to the new language through a variety of methods.
Angela, 34, received support from Be Enterprising, County Durham’s Local Enterprise Growth Initiative, to set up the business - which has been such a success that it’s a regional finalist in the HSBC Start-up Stars Award.
Her business was supported by the Enterprise Coaching project through Be Enterprising, which is part of Solutions for Business – the Government’s package of publicly funded business support designed to help companies start and grow.
The enterprising mum came up with the idea when she fell pregnant and decided she wanted to her daughter to be bilingual. With the support of Be Enterprising the infant business is growing nicely with Angela running a number of classes near her home with schools; parents groups and nurseries. Angela said: “I have taught languages since 1997 and when I became pregnant I started researching language learning development in children. I’d also been living abroad before this so coming back home and having Annalise it was a perfect time to start up.
“I found that children are born with the ability to speak any language which they gradually lose as they get older as their brains “tune in” to their mother tongue. My aim is to teach the children as their language skills are developing.”
