Seeking a brighter future
THOUSANDS of Newcastle residents will be offered help with finding a job at a major event next week.
Social landlord Your Homes Newcastle (YHN), in partnership with Newcastle Futures, has invited 3,000 of its tenants to attend a skills event at West End Women and Girls Centre in Elswick Road, Newcastle, on September 30.
Organisations including Northern Learning Trust, Learning Links, The Prince’s Trust and Jobs Education Training will be on hand to offer advice and guidance to people with varying levels of experience, training and education.
Martyn Burn, head of support and care at YHN, said: “Research shows that there is a higher percentage of people living in social housing who are currently out of work, compared to those living in privately owned accommodation. YHN is committed to helping our tenants redress the balance.”
YHN is a member of Newcastle’s Employability Compact which strives to help the city’s unemployed into work by providing them with opportunities to find out about, and take advantage of, services to boost skills and confidence.
