Gateshead College steps up a gear

A NEW £400,000 facility which will improve the skills of people who assess and repair damaged vehicles has officially opened for business in the region.

The Auto Skills Centre has been opened by Gateshead College and is the latest move by the Tyneside college as it continues to expand the scope of its business activities and the volume of commercial work being undertaken across the UK.

All training and expertise will be available under one roof at the centre, which has been established to support and deliver the quality kite mark for the vehicle damage and repair industry, known as the BSI PAS 125 standard.

It enables those working in the industry to gain the approval rating needed to meet the high quality standards required by insurance companies who place work with bodyshops.

The college has invested significantly in providing new workshops, equipment and classrooms for the centre as part of its strategy to improve the standards of training in the automotive sector.

Dealer principals and bodyshop owners joined the Institute of the Motor Industry’s national manager for England, Jonathan Douglass, to see how employees can be up-skilled and trained in the latest techniques for assessing and repairing damaged cars and commercial vehicles.
