Daughter’s legacy inspires new therapy business
AFTER being set back by a motorcycle accident and three floods, a counsellor has finally launched her own practice in memory of her late, disabled daughter who died last year.
REI Counselling and Therapy Centre, in Bishop Auckland, County Durham, has been set up by Brenda Wright to offer holistic services to the public and to support the business community through an employee assistance programme.
The clinic, which offers Counselling, Hypnotherapy and NLP services, and holistic therapies has been established in memory of Ms Wright’s daughter Jessica Wright, who died just days after her 16th birthday.
Ms Wright, who previously ran two successful equestrian businesses for close to two decades, retrained as a counsellor as she needed a career which would fit around her daughter’s care needs.
The clinic had been scheduled to open last June, until Ms Wright was left unable to work due to injuries suffered in a road accident while riding her motorbike.
The launch date was then further set back by flood damage to her business property on three separate occasions, due to a major drain blockage beneath Bishop Auckland’s town centre.
Ms Wright, whose best friend Kirstie Harris-Parker will offer podiatry and chiropody services at the clinic, said: “REI stands for Respect Each Individual. Having a child with disabilities gave me a greater insight into how she had no preconceptions about people and respected everyone, and thus my primary aim was born.
“I fully believe that every individual who comes through the centre door deserves our respect. And, since many people have lost their self respect, we will strive to restore it.”
“It is my ethos to provide the best holistic counselling and therapy centre in the area and therefore, as new developments arise, I will endeavour to provide these services to the public and to take on new staff as we expand into these areas.”
Next month the centre will open a support group for people suffering with eating disorders and also plans to launch a bereavement support service.
Alongside Ms Wright and Mrs.Kirstie Harris-Parker Podiatrist, other members of the REI team are: Jackie Macmann, a counsellor, Maxine Alton a bereavement counsellor, complementary therapist and trainer and John Mcpherson, an NLP practitioner, hypnotherapist, soul therapist, life coach and medium.
