Chilli firm fired up by funding
A CHILLI sauce company is set to expand and create new jobs after winning new funding.
TCD Foods, based in Haltwhistle, Northumberland, is to create six new jobs and invest in a new manufacturing plant and equipment after winning £35,000 from the Rural Development Programme for England.
The expansion will also provide a service for the North East’s rural economy allowing fellow rural businesses to diversify into food production by using TCD’s facilities.
The TCD range was originally launched in 2005 by targeting local farm shops and specialty grocers under the ‘Trees Can’t Dance’ brand.
The business has grown to compete with international brands in major national retailers with listings in over 70 Tesco stores, 200 Sainsbury’s, plus independent stockists and is now hoping to build upon this through the expansion.
Adrian Sherwood, RDPE manager at One North East, said: “RDPE funding will allow the company to develop its successful brand even further in order to compete with national retailers making TCD a more sustainable business while creating new jobs.”
