Accountancy merger creates Tyne-Wear partnership

A TYNESIDE accountancy firm which specialises in the SME market has expanded its reach into Wearside after merging with a Sunderland company.

Blu Sky Accountants, based in North Shields, North Tyneside, has merged with Wearside accountancy outfit Red Sky Bookkeeping as it looks to expand its reach across the North East.

Red Sky was set up three years ago by Susan Lang, who has previously worked in partnership with Blu Sky and will now assume the role of technical manager at the business.

Blu Sky will also look to appoint a new apprentice to prepare for future growth and in the longer term may look to open further offices in the region.

Susan has been working as a subcontractor with Blu Sky for the past year and, after being impressed by the standard of her work, Blu Sky initially opened discussions over a possible joint venture which later evolved into the merger.

As well as Susan’s excellent track record, Blu Sky was also attracted to the move because of the many SME business opportunities in the Sunderland area.

Dave Gibson, partner at Blu Sky, said: “In the next two or three years we want to consolidate our place in the market and now that we have Susan on board, we would like to increase our presence in Sunderland also. We want much more of a regional presence than just in North Tyneside.”

Fellow partner Jon Dudgeon added: “The number of new start up and existing SME businesses in Sunderland represents a real opportunity there and Susan is a great addition to the technical team and has given us a great chance to expand.”
