Region’s future entrepreneurs put first foot forward

OVER 1,200 scholars and parents are expected to attend Middlesbrough’s biggest careers fare today, as exhibitors look to unearth Teesside’s best young talent.

‘Choices 2010’ which is intended to help pupils learn about their post-16 options will feature training providers, colleges and universities as well as employers.

The event will also host a special evening slot to give parents the opportunity to join their children in finding their employment or education path

John Keelty, from event organisers, Middlesbrough’s Council’s Integrated Youth Support Service said: “We started doing this event to provide personalised information, advice and guidance on the learning pathways available to young people when they leave education.

“This is the largest impartial careers education event in the Tees Valley and we have tried to make every young person aware of the event through work in schools and individual letters as we want to help them to make the correct career choice at 16.”

The event, which is free to attend, takes place at Middlesbrough Town Hall, and is being backed by teachers in the region.

Jackie Hurst, a teacher from the Kings Academy school in Middlesbrough, said: “The event plays a crucial role in helping young people make the tough decision of choosing what do at 16 and I would urge any parents to also come along so that they can help their children make the best decision for them.”

The event runs from 10am until 7pm.
