Airline firm spreads its North East wings
A BUDGET Airline is showing its support to one of the region’s airports by creating more than 100 jobs.
Jet2 is going to base an extra plane at Newcastle airport next summer, with the company planning five new routes to Alicante, the Algarve, Toulouse, Krakow and Prague next year.
The company said it was generating 118 new airport-based posts including, staff, cabin crew and pilots after a record summer at the base.
Philip Meeson, owner of Jet2 and Dart Group Plc, said: “We see Newcastle Airport as a really key location for us, hence we are introducing another aircraft, to operate additional destinations and increased flight frequency.
“Customer feedback shows there are additional routes and services the people of the North East want, and we have factored those into our plans.”
The company that owns Jet2, Dart Group PLC announced its pre-tax profits were up 38% on last year, to £38.7m, in its interim results for the half-year ending on 30 September 2010.
