Parkdean pumps £12m into investment drive
A NORTH EAST holiday park operator has pledged a further £12m into its investment programme as it looks to expand throughout the UK in 2011.
Parkdean, based in Newcastle, has committed itself to multi-million pound upgrades in a number of its parks, which includes a new £2m leisure pool at its Southerness park in South West Scotland, new caravan holiday homes across 21 of its holiday parks, plus new luxury lodges at Ruda in North Devon.
The company has also beaten off other operators to be crowned the best UK holiday park operator at this year’s British Travel Awards.
Chief executive, John Waterworth, said: “We are thrilled to bits with the award. We operate in a fiercely competitive sector of the holiday market, so it is especially pleasing to know that this award is won with many thousands of votes from people who have holidayed with us over the last 12 months.
“The credit has to go to all those at Parkdean who work tirelessly to ensure those families and individuals visiting our parks have a wonderful experience in enjoyable surroundings and can take advantage of the great facilities we have at all of our parks.
“The recognition comes at a perfect time for us as we have just launched our biggest brochure yet for our 2011 season.”
The awards ceremony was held in front of more than 1,000 industry individuals at Battersea Evolution in Battersea Park, London.
In all, 220,000 votes were cast by holiday makers and industry experts to help the British Travel Awards arrive at their decisions for the gongs.
Parkdean operate 24 holiday parks across Devon and Cornwall, Dorset and Hampshire, Norfolk, South Wales and Scotland.
