£20m offshore project clears the air
TAG Energy Solutions has embarked on the construction of its new £20 million offshore wind tubular production facility at its site in Haverton Hill, Billingham.
Contractors are now in the process of erecting the steel frame for the 6,920 square foot building, which will house specialist automated equipment for the manufacturer of large diameter cans for offshore windmill foundations.
Once the frame is complete the roof and outer cladding will be installed in preparation for the internal works, which are due to be completed in spring 2011.
Located at its 42 acre site on the North Bank of the River Tees on Teesside, the automated production facility will roll and weld large diameter tubulars used in the construction of offshore windmill jacket and monopile foundations.
Expected to create up to 400 jobs, in readiness for the Round 3 offshore developments, the facility is the first of its kind in the UK.
Alex Dawson, Chief Executive of TAG Energy Solutions, said: “Embarking on the construction of the facility is an important milestone in the creation of a robust and effective supply chain for the offshore wind market.
“As the building takes shape it sends a message to the sector that we aim to play a serious role in the marketplace and we have real confidence that the UK, and of course the North East, will have a major influence on the offshore wind industry.”
