Generating a year of success

A NORTH EAST based music development agency has reported a year of solid growth, creating 5 new jobs in the process, after receiving funding of £850,000.

Generator released in its annual report that they have invested in staffing and structures to support expansion in other regions.

The Newcastle based organisation has been working with NCFE to create a bespoke introductory qualification for the music industry, ‘Managing a Music Business Enterprise’ which is now ready for delivery throughout the UK.

Generator CEO Jim Mawdsley said: “In recent years the music industry has gone through huge changes caused by technology and wider economic factors, but it remains a fact that music is a huge contributor to the UK economy creating almost £5bn each year.

“It is vitally important that businesses and artists in this sector have equal access to the knowledge, experience and skills to ensure that they can create successful, sustainable enterprises that can take the industry forwards.”

The agency recently undertook the development of a network for music businesses in Yorkshire by hosting seminars and networking sessions Plugged In Yorkshire, encouraging collaboration between businesses and to share examples of innovation and best practice.

This has been underpinned by development of an online management system that enables administrators to run Generator’s range of programmes for musicians and businesses anywhere in the UK with access for partners and funding organisations.
