Cobalt takes on BSkyB

ONE of the region’s business parks has been shortlisted for three national travel awards.

Cobalt Business Park in Newcastle is up for the ACT TravelWise Commuter Friendly Workplace of the Year and Travel Plan Innovation of the Year.

The park will be battling against large organisations such as BSkyB, NHS and the Electricity Supply Board.

Emma Spence, active travel coordinator working for both Cobalt and travel consultants Sustrans, has also been shortlisted for Travel Planner of the Year.

She said: “Working for the partnership means that I have the benefit of bringing expert advice directly to a business park that communicates with around 10,000 people.

“I am thrilled that collectively we have been shortlisted for three awards - it really does show that our hard work with the local community, businesses, transport providers and consultants is coming to fruition.”

ACT Travelwise encourages businesses to promote personalised travel planning, travel awareness campaigns, car sharing schemes amongst other initiatives.

The travel team at Cobalt is led by Lynn Cramman, who was appointed specifically to develop sustainable transport at the park.

Ms Cramman said: “At Cobalt, we have a real focus on encouraging staff to look at how they travel to work each day.

“The public transport links to the business park are second to none and we have all kinds of initiatives to encourage people to move away from single occupancy car use. I am thrilled that our hard work to promote sustainable travel at Cobalt has been recognised by ACT Travelwise.”
